Well Coffee :: Humble Beginnings

I am sitting in the coffeehouse near Baylor University’s campus where I first fell in love with coffee.  Not merely because of its positive side-effects on my energy level (and thus my studies) but because of the coffeehouse environment.  College was an angsty, seeking season of life…not really knowing who I was or having any real direction other than trying to follow Jesus and live out this faith that was new to me.

Common Grounds (www.commongroundswaco.com) provided a place for me to retreat and work through all my analyzations, questions & life observations that were buzzing around in my head.  And then I met the owner and as a business student at Baylor, it was inspirational to me knowing that a woman pioneered this iconic concept.

So now, here I sit, 7 years and alot of life experience later, as one of the coffee suppliers to the place where I fell in love with this tasty beverage that has become my life.  Funny, life is.

Managing Rabbits

I’ve been thinking alot lately about the term ‘managing rabbits,’ which was initially coined by my friend Lee (aka: creative genius), when we were dialoguing one day about his role in helping start-up companies, like mine.  Similar to herding cats, Lee’s role in organizing and streamlining entrepreneurs and their visions can be exciting at best and challenging at worst.  And by challenging, I mean want-to-pull-your-hair-out-challenging.  That kind.  But he does it, and he does it well.  Though he may join in on the rabbit trails from time to time, he manages them well.   He has helped my company, Well Coffee, tremendously and I know many others out there can say the same.  Lee…you’re a rock star.  But don’t just take my word for it people, check him out at www.toincite.com.  Also, be on the watch for his upcoming book “Rabbit Trails of an Entrepreneur : : One Man’s Quest in a World of A.D.D. “

Too bad there is no sarcasm font on here.

Okay, so back to the term ‘Managing Rabbits’ and what it has to do with Well Coffee.  I’ve endearingly titled my first blog post this because it accurately (and visually) describes my vision with this blog.  Here is why:

  1. It is a central place to manage all of the rabbit trails that happen daily in my brain as I journey through starting a business & all that teaches me about life
  2. It is an outlet of expression as I document and engage people in the story of Well Coffee and all of the rabbit trail adventures we encounter along the way

Thanks for stopping in.  The blogging is just beginning.  Check back frequently and remember to Drink Well my friends.
